Xprizo’s mission is to provide banking solutions for underbanked or unbanked communities across the globe to increase living standards. We bring a breath of fresh air to a challenging landscape where traditional banking options are increasingly difficult for people to use. To achieve these goals the Xprizo Team requires talent, organisation, creativity, and passion. In this blog we spoke with Head of Operations Justin Farrin-Thorne about his approach to keeping Xprizo focused on the path forward.
There are many methods, techniques, models and strategies for achieving your end goal, but two that I have consistently referred back to in my experience of Operational Process Improvement are:
- Who, What, Why, How & When
- Working SMARTER…
Who, What, Why, How & When
Who is the target task / project for?
What is the specific need and must be specific?
Why is this task / project required?
How will it be achieved?
When will it be achieved by?
Working SMARTER…
Now what do I mean and what is the purpose of this?
When I am about to tackle a challenge for our Operations Team to review and achieve Operational Excellence, it is by working from the end goal and systematically working backwards by asking yourself these following questions.
S- SPECIFIC – What am I specifically, positively, and clearly trying to achieve by doing this task/goal?
M – MEASURABLE – Can I monitor the progress and what will my expected results look like once implemented?
A – ACHIEVABLE – Is this task / goal achievable with the resources available and who else could support me in this quest?
R – REALISTIC – Is this relevant to what we are trying to achieve in terms of my role, department and company’s immediate objectives?
T – TIMEBOUND – When I set a deadline date, will this be achieved in one go or do I need to set / include additional steps to monitor?
E – EVALUATION – Constantly and periodically evaluating whether this task / goal is working for you perhaps within KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) or KRIs (Key Risk Indicators)
R – REVIEW – Analysing what worked well and what could be improved on?
I would welcome your thoughts and views about what works best for you too …?
The additional key to these work puzzles and conundrums is constantly evaluating whether you are still on track to reach your goal or objective and whether you need to make further step refinements as you project manage your way through the labyrinth for constant operational improvement.
