The good news keeps coming for Xprizo, and our latest development is the arrival of Alex Cachia as Chief Information Officer.

He will focus on building a modern, high-performing, and innovative tech organisation to support Xprizo’s scaling needs. His priorities are aligning technology investments and initiatives with business objectives to deliver measurable impact and support growth, and leverage technology to bridge the gap for underserved communities and deliver scalable solutions that drive both social impact and business success.

Some of his high-level goals include developing a secure and scalable infrastructure to support rapid growth, optimising development, delivery, and operations to increase efficiency and reliability. Additionally, he aims to introduce strong cybersecurity measures and regulatory compliance and build a data-driven culture to inform decisions and track impact.

Alex will streamline development and operations, leveraging data to drive operational excellence and invest in automation, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and partner with key stakeholders to align technology strategy with business growth.

He arrives with a tonne of experience – in fact 24 years, making him somewhat of a veteran.

As a technologist at heart, he thrives in the intersection between business, technology, and people – he has built and led teams delivering software, services, API’s, and online properties consumed by tens of thousands of users.

He spent 15 years at GFI Software, where it all started with taking an email hygiene software product from prototype to release to market in under six months; this became the flagship product of the company for numerous years. At GFI he worked up the career ladder, and left as the VP of Engineering, leading an 85 person tech organisation spanning Malta and Romania.

His work experience includes six years in FinTech, having worked at Ixaris (now part of Nium), and most recently at Weavr (a startup in the Embedded Finance space backed by the likes of Tiger Global Management). He has extensive experience running development operations in the regulated financial sector, as well as environments secured to PCI-DSS and ISO-27001 standards.

Further to this, Alex worked with an affiliate marketing player for 3 years, where among others he authored and initiated execution of a technical debt reduction strategy, as well as a data-centered marketing technology strategy, guided the re-architecting of their WordPress platforms, and led a drastic improvement in security and uptime across their online estate.

Away from work, Alex loves spending time with his wife and daughter and that can mean anything from a puzzle, playing with the cat Tilly, swimming, riding the bicycle, watching a movie, or reading a kids’ book. 

Travelling is another passion, and especially visiting new places around the world. Time for travel is a little more constrained to his daughter’s school holidays now, but no complaints, as he’s ticked off plenty of places on this bucket list already. A perfect holiday would be somewhere and something new. It would be tricky to top a honeymoon which included the Burj Khalifa and the desert in Dubai, to the natural beauty of New Zealand, the lush rainforests of Tahiti, and the uniqueness of Bora Bora.

Travelling is made even easier given Alex’s ability to speak Maltese, English and Italian fluently. Other useful languages include C++, C#, Java, Javascript, Python, PHP.
